'Melbourne to the Gulf: A Brief History of the Burke & Wills Expedition' by Dave Phoenix.
This short history outlines the progress of the expedition in 17 easy chapters. It can be read or downloaded as an e-book at Burke and Wills Web;


'Burke and Wills Outback Conference 2003 : Cloncurry, Qld.'
186 pages, many monochrome maps, illustrations and photographs.

A book of the presentations given at the Burke & Wills Outback Conferences was published by the Society. Although now out of print, copies of the book can be found in most State Libraries.


For people interested in a general description of the expedition, the following two books are available :

  • 'The Dig Tree' by Sarah Murgatroyd, 2002.
  • 'Cooper's Creek' by Alan Moorehead, 1963

A more detailed look at the background of the expedition and its role in shaping Victorian history can be found in :
